Hi! My name is mika, and I live in a Japanese “akiya” house, one of the many vacant houses in Japan, with my partner. Here, I’ll be sharing candid insights into traditional house life in Japan, house renovation projects, and all the little stories that making living here such a gem.
In 2021, my partner and I moved to a rural town in Shikoku island, Japan’s fourth main and smallest island.
We introduced the Japanese countryside to our Canadian family
Canada meets rural Japan 🇨🇦🇯🇵 Our family came all the way to our rural corner of Japan to visit us! We showed them the unique countryside perspective of Japan, including monkeys, BBQs, river swims, and some of this region’s attractions.

I so enjoy your videos. So calming and tranquil. I am an American who had never considered visiting Japan but now maybe if I could visit a nice, quiet village and stay in a small cottage for a week or so. Calm and peaceful and slow.

This is such a relatable episode. I'm american but have been living in britain for the last 15 years. When i have family or friends from the USA visit me, i get to "play tourist" in my own country and experience my fam an friends trying all the foods and places i'm so used to, and watch them enjoy it so much. It's fun!
